The hind gut gives rise to:
Initially, the distal end of the hindgut is connected to a space called the cloaca in the caudal end of the embryo. Cloaca is Latin for "sewer" and it represents a common chamber for outflow from the urinary and digestive systems.
A partition called the urorectal septum will divide the cloaca into a urogenital sinus located anteriorly and the rectum and anal canal located posteriorly.
The urogenital sinus will become the bladder and urethra and will be further studied in development of the urogenital tract.
The end of the hindgut will form the rectum. Perforation of the cloacal or proctorial membrane produces the anal opening.
